Design Diary: A liberating passion for Patterns and Design.
I see design as a combination of the patterns I craft out from sketches and the fabric I lovingly buy from the strew of Indian shops in Harare’s bustling city center. Design especially that of bags and hats provides an opportunity for me to go all out with making fabric choices and gives me a refreshing break from the maze of words that surround me as a writer.
Finding the right fabric takes small and long steps and begins with visits to the Indian shops in the downtown area of Harare’s CBD where I am met with the overwhelming appeal of colours and textures. Like a crazed woman I search through rolls of fabric for my special choice that I can then layer on with stories stored in my wandering imaginative mind.
When I am in my element of design I let the feelings brought out by the dynamic nature of the material of my choice lead me towards creating the story of an ‘Aame Creations’ design. I like to use one fabric piece on different bag and hat designs to see how it turns out, its an undeniable desire for efficiency and a love for combination.
I use the tools of design to create pleasant images in the minds of my customer and to create impressive and stylish creations.
Its a significant experiment of mine and I always undoubtedly surprise myself after each try and am always ready to take up another challenge. For me combination is not only a choice but a deep set feeling too.
